Muscle hormone development age? Hey, I was wondering when you develop the hormone for building muscle. I know you have the ability since you were born, like with testosterone and stuff, but when is the age when you can seriously "bodybuild?" I heard that the second stage of development is around 15 or somethin. I'm 14, and i just wanna know.

carzy guy lol replied: "i'm 14 aswell i do weights 3kg and is has good and bad effects the good 1s are yes you can see muscles but you're likely to get stretch marks like i have yes i heard somthin bout you have to be over 15 but i also heard somthin about it was good to do light weights before 15 not sure but i hope i helped"

Do sexual activities or even masturbation really affect muscle development in men? i've read in an article that there is high concentration of testosterone in men after 3 weeks of sexual abstinence. what do you think? will it really help an individual to have at least muscle-toned body. >
cjstnly replied: "that is not true. there have been many studies that report that the male body will produce higher levels of testosterone after sexual intercourse and if might even be a good idea to have a quicky before working out and make sure you eat a protine bar so your muscle can build its self back up after you're done tearing it down."

jonny replied: "If you have sex daily it could be, but after 4-5 days gap it's ok"

As a 16 year old guy would testosterone help me with my physical development during puberty? This is a long question. ----------------- "- Phallic enlargement or clitoromegaly - Increased libido and frequency of erection or clitoral engorgement - Pubic hair extends to thighs and up toward umbilicus - Facial hair (sideburns, beard, moustache) - Chest hair, periareolar hair, perianal hair - Subcutaneous fat in face decreases - Increased muscle strength and mass - Deepening of voice - Growth of the Adam's apple - Growth of spermatogenic tissue in testes, male fertility - Growth of jaw, brow, chin, nose, and remodelling of facial bone contours - Shoulders become broader and rib cage expands" -------------------- During puberty, it acts as the "masculinizing" hormone, creating the distinctive male features of a deeper voice, facial hair, and bulkier muscles. But testosterone is responsible for more than just the development of male characteristics at crucial lifecycle stages. Research has shown that testosterone also influences sexual drive, energy levels, and mood. ------------------ - Testosterone directly affects the growth of certain facial features, and of the gonads. Testosterone is part of the reason why boys faces change shape during puberty (when testosterone levels are high). - Testosterone is believed to suppress the immune system and so impose a handicap on individuals with high testosterone. If there is a cost to having high testosterone, then perhaps only the best males can carry this cost. Poor quality males cannot cope with such high levels of testosterone. Therefore, levels of testosterone in the male face may be an honest indicator of fitness. --------------------- Im think about taking the supplement 6-Oxo thats a natural aromatase inhibitor which instead of directly increasing testosterone - which can be dangerous, it simply blocks oestrogen synthesis causing the pituitary to synthesize more testosterone. --------------------- Im doing this because I believe I lack testosterone compared to my friends Im more depressed, have low libido, weaker facial features, lack body hair, lack motivation, fat deposits in feminine areas (hips and butt). Ive been weight training for about a year and I have a very muscular physique similar to the latest james bond, and the doctor already says that my body is overdeveloped compared to my friends. But I believe my face is underdeveloped. I will ask my local GP (physician) if I lack testosterone, and Ill probably take a blood test to find out what my blood serum testosterone levels are. Can any professionals or those with knowledge in this field help me with this enquiry? I'm not going to a physician, they never prescribe anything in this country. The local health food guy researches these supplements and their side effects, he would be the guy selling the stuff.

Chris S replied: "you're body makes all the testosterone you need, if you add any more to it, you will screw yourself up"

e.buddha replied: "You answered your own question at least 5 times. Yes it helps with overall development, if you're worried that your body is not creating enough you can go to your doctors, but if not you'll have to wait until puberty kicks in more."

just me replied: "Give yourself time to grow up! Many men dont start maturing until older than you. No physician is going to prescribe testosterone at your tender age."

Does depo-provera affect muscle-mass development on men? I heard from a friend that this drug lowers the testosterone levels in men, but then if that is the case then would it effect the amount of muscle he had (or could have) if he was weight-training?

Jack N replied: "Yes! Any time your testosterone levels are low it will affect your ability to build muscle mass. Depo Provera is a female hormone and a man ought not to be taking it unless it is prescribed by a doctor for some reason. It will also decrease a mans libido and his ability to get an erection."

stephm9564 replied: "Yes, this drug is used for birth control in women. One of the side affects for women is weight gain (fat). It is used for chemical castration in men (takes away sexual urges) and is used by pedophiles. I wouldn't recommend taking it if you are a man."

ohiojeff replied: "why on earth would a man be taking depo? yes, it would have serious effects because it is estrogen. in high enough amounts he would develop breasts and so on."

PsyGuy replied: "Depo is progesterone and is a powerful female hormone. Males in no way should ever take this drug. This is the same drug that is used for chemical castration. You will definitely loose more than muscle mass."

How does ejaculating affect our workout? ok, i understand that by ejaculating, we secrete more testosterone. how does that help us work out? quicker muscle development?

justin f replied: "Well it doesn't help, at all, in fact ejaculating works against you if you are trying to work out after-wards as it decreases your energy and testosterone, better save it for after your work outs!"

Dale replied: "Ejaculation can't give you quicker muscle development. It can can make you tired faster when working out."

Hairy replied: "When you work out you need all the power that you can have. After, you will feel arouse by all the sport done, then is a good time to hit the steam room, the shower, and why not, play with your dick, have a good time masturbating. Then you have all the time to rest and recover. Good luck,"

Ben Bhoy replied: "if u want sumthing to affect ur workout get angry it works they done that on brainyak i tried it too i pretened i cot ma best mate shaging ma bird man that got me angry it made me lift more and everything try man hope this helped"

Scobill replied: "So long as you don't do it in the locker room it will have no affect !! Seriously when you orgasm it can make you tired for a short time but it will neither help nor hinder your workouts All young guys masturbate at least once every day , it helps relieve stress and tension and also helps you understand how your body works"

Connor replied: "It doesn't. it doesn't make you produce more testosterone. It doesn't effect it at all and it doesn't secrete more testosterone. -Connor"

wsne replied: "No impact whatsoever, just burns maybe 100 calories, so what. Enjoy yourself. Solo sex is no different physically than having sexual intercourse, and most guys work out to get buff and get girls to have sex, so again, no difference."

What happens in our body when we gain muscles? In general, exercise and good nutrition help build strength and muscles. But do muscles have anything to do with the brain? I thought it was the brain that sends the signal to the muscles to make them move and I thought it was a chemical(testosterone) in the brain that makes the muscles want to grow bigger. People tend to talk about their muscles and strength as if it has nothing to do with the brain and I am just wondering what is the brains role in the development of muscle and strength. Also, just out of curiosity, what happens when we lift weights or exercise? The brain sends the signal to move the arm and then neurotransmitters go back to the brain and determine whether if we should keep exercising or not, correct? So if this is right, it should explain why a male might be able to do only 30 pushups or so before he is weak and tired.

unsurestorm replied: "ima try to see if i can get this right: it is the brain that sends the muscle, but when we work out and you actually push yourself, the muscle tears. Thats how you get that burning feeling. Then the body repairs itself, and everytime it repairs itself, it gets tighter and tigher, allowing it to take on more abuse."

stellygreen replied: "Neurological signals are what allow your muscles to contract when you are working out. As you are pushing yourself you feel the burning sensation as a result of lactic acid build up - a byproduct of anaerobic respiration that our muscles often use when we exercise because they do not have enough oxygen to use their normal route of energy formation, which requires oxygen. As we push harder the muscles experience small tears that we repair, building up the muscle. This is why your muscles stay sore for a day or two after exercising and why you should not lift weights with the same muscles on consecutive days. Your brain is constantly responding to signals from your senses, including the pain from exercise, which plays a role in knowing when to stop exercising - your muscles begin to send pain signals and signals indicating stress due to lack of oxygen, both of which (among other things) contributes to your brain telling you to stop exerting yourself. I'm in no way an expert on exercise though, and I'm sure there is a lot more that I do not know anything about! :-)"

Testosterone pills? Im 16 and training for this years football season. Im getting a lot of muscle already. But I overheard some guys talking about Testosterone pills after practice. They said it helps make your muscles bigger and that it helps with facial hair development. I heard you can go to a drug store and get some over the counter. Should I get some or not? I dont want to mess up my body. Do they work and what are the side effects? Last thing I want is a small penis.

Doc replied: "I have a genetic disease that allows me to buy testosterone. (My doctor would say "requires me to be on testosterone" but what does he know?) Anyway, there are no pills that deliver testosterone. They used to make some but discovered that the stomach acids destroyed most of the hormone. So the only way to get this hormone into your blood stream is either by using a rub on type or an injectable. I've never tried the rub on ($200.00 for a month supply) and the injectable is packed in sesame oil and so is really, really thick and must be injected into your butt muscle with a really big (thick) needle. I'm supposed to be on 1cc IM once a month, but phuck that! It takes like 10 mins to push that oil into the muscle and it HURTS! And yeah, if you don't need it for a medical condition (or sometimes even if you do) it'll cause you to get prostate cancer and can make your willy really tiny and non-functioning. Eat plenty of proteins and work out. Don't do 'roids!"

thecassers replied: "If you want your man thing to shrink then go ahead!"

James replied: "You really need to be telling us what KIND of testosterone pill for us to answer this... I would recommend using Tribulus Terrestris (100% natural...NOT a steroid) and it wont make your "man thingy" shrink (little girls who don't know anything about hormones and weightlifting shouldnt be answering questions on Men's Health) STEROIDS might make your balls shrink but not your "thingy""

Me! replied: "Dudes always want to increase their testosterone level with the hopes for a quick or shortcut to a muscular developed body. The problem with increasing testosterone form external sources is that the male body monitors free blood testosterone through the pineal gland. If the testosterone exceeds the preset maximum amount, the pineal gland gives hormonal signal to the pituitary gland, which in turn sends chemicals into the blood stream, causing the surplus testosterone to be converted by the body into estrogen. The estrogen also signals the testicles to quit producing testosterone, because yur body thinks that's where it came from. From the body point of view, where else could it come from!!! Here we have another example of man getting his limited brain in there and screwing up what is natural again. The system thinks that the testicles have overdone it on the testosterone, so it tries to bring that hormone back down, and starts from scratch to stabilize production by allowing it back on line as the estrogen dissipates. If a Dude stay on external sources, the estrogen will never quit, the package will shrink and the Dude will develop permanent Bitc- h ti-ts as well. The end result is lower testosterone, but a whole bunch of estrogen. Estrogen is a growth hormone for bone structure, but not for muscle. Ever notice that girls get taller sooner than the boys at puberty? That isn't because testosterone, but because of estrogen. You might start doing changes to yur bone structure, but loose out on the muscle building benefits of yur own natural testosterone at it's allowable max. Yur testicles and Dick will shrink, because yur own producers are constantly being shut down by estrogen and yur package as a total suffers. Shrinkage in this part of yur body isn't coming back to original size any time soon cuz the process that puberty performs has been circumvented. At age 16, yur testosterone is maxed already Dude! If you manage to raise it, you are going to cause the over-run to be converted to estrogen, and you loose out testosterone benefits fast. Exercise in general, and as in the thigh muscles especially, causes an allowable testosterone spike in the body because of the sudden increase of circulation through yur testicles. The spike is safe, because the body metabolizes it quickly because it happens during the workout. Omega 3 6 9 capsule supplements helps in the metabolizing of yur own testosterone spikes quickly and safely without bringing on countering estrogen from the body's natural control loop. Bottom line,16 year old Dude! Don't supplement yur testosterone, yur maxed already! just do moderate working out, and add the Omega 3 6 and 9 capsules which you can get at almost any pharmacy non pre ion shelf These are escetail omega fatty acids whick can suspend testosterone and yur body metabalizes it with the oils. That's why injectibile testosterone is suspended often a a sesamie oil. Omega 3 6 and 9 is a salmon, and flax seed oil combo. There is a pill called Tribulus which is a shelf item, and is supposed to get the pineal gland to call for more testosterone. This pill would help if you were around 40 years old and yur testosterone was dropping low. It will encourage the production of testosterone to go up to the max allowable by the body again, but if you are already maxed, as in age 15 through age 35, the pineal gland won't allow the increase and will override any influence of the pineal stimulators. The only time that external testosterone benefits is if a Dude isn't producing enough already, and the per ion is the amount required to bring the level up close the the body allowable amount. Being in body building, I know that this is all going to make sense to you. Wishing the best for you Dude Me! :- )"

Does neutering your dog lose its muscle tone and soften its appearance in general? Hi I have an 11 month old rhodesian ridgeback dog and am considering having him neutered. Their are obviously pros and cons for each side. Obviously health and behaviour are the most important aspects, however my question here is specifically related to the physical appearance and development of the dog without testosterone. I chose this particular breed and gender because I love their character as well as what they look like, their shape, muscularity and general lean appearance. Will neutering him mean that he loses this muscle tone/definition, and lean body shape?. Also If this is the case does anyone have any recommendations for diets and exercise regimes that will maintain/build muscle definition in large dogs like rhodesian ridgebacks that have been neutered. E.g. will a raw diet help etc Many Thanks

Kip's Mom *switching to raw* replied: "Not necessarily, as long as you work/exercise the dog to maintain his fitness. Neutered males might need more exercise to maintain the form you like, but it's not impossible."

Tam replied: "As long as you keep him active and don't let him get overweight they won't be a problem, people tend to use it as an excuse when it is not"

Unicandy replied: "Keep his diet under control and he will be fine. In fact, he will more than likely grow bigger than what he would normally as it is the testosterone that tells the bones to stop growing - take away the testosterone and the bones will continue to grow untill the growth plates have closed."

KoAussie replied: "Neutering does not affect muscle tone or weight gain, only exercise and caloric intake do. People who neuter pets seem to become lackadaisical about those two items and then blame weight gain on the surgery. Regular road work (jogging, bicycling) as well as swimming will help maintain both your dog's cardiovascular health and endurance. Consider joining a lure coursing club so your dog can also participate in sprint exercises and have the added benefit of mental training."

Munch replied: "Well if only the males of this species have the look you want, I'm guessing having him neutered will make him look different, yet. However, if the females also look like this, I'm sure there's nothing to worry about. If you do get him neutered, I'm sure you can still help him look lean and healthy by taking him on walks to play/run, make sure he can go outside to run around, and yes, I'm sure a raw meat diet should help, what with the protein and all, and dogs are supposed to eat raw meat anyway, so hopefully it will help. I don't know if that will totally help him keep that figure, but you can certainly try. It's really up to you."

DeeDawg replied: "na- have him neutered. the only difference it's gonna make is that he's not going to be trying to get to every female in heat within a 20 mile radius. definitely a good idea. trust me, it won't make him flabby. he's a dog, not a cat. he'll still want to run that energy out, and provided you exercise him, he'll be as good or better. (unaltered males are a little rangier, once he's neutered you may see him fill out a bit more.) exercise should gradually increase, as it should with any dog who you'd like to see muscle on, and feed him whatever you've been feeding him. raw is good too, if you can afford it, but do your homework first. there's more to raw than meat."

DeadGame replied: "NO!!!! Over-FEEDING & under-exercising will! Testicles aren't SACRED MIRACLES!"

frankiehome1 replied: "Neutering is good for health and attitude if you have no desire to breed from him. Good adult maintenance diet is best, don't feed cheap supermarket brands.Dogs are carnivores and a little raw meat doesn't hurt mixed in with dried food now and then but don't overdo the protein, they can get too hyper if it isn't balanced with good exercise. Lots of exercise on and off leash, where do you live? do you have access to some good hills, that's great for owner and dog! Have fun with him they are great companions"

Kate C *Attackofthebear* replied: "no. But it could result in the dog growing too tall. Raw diets are a great diet, but in terms of signaling the growth plate to close, I dont think that will do it. If you are willing to feed raw, I highly suggest you just go for it after a little research. It is a great way to feed. Physical appearance will not change, but his growth plates may not close like they would with the hormones. can help you more with raw feeding and the issue if fixing or waiting until growing stops."

moof replied: "Actually, I do believe neutering can affect appearance like that. From what I understand, the testosterone does a little bit in the way of making the dog appear more healthy and virile by making the coat a little smoother and shinier, the muscles a little thicker, so on and so forth. But I don't believe that's a given when neutering, and I am positive that the difference is minuscule, if there is any. There will be no obvious, apparent difference.. unless, of course, you stop exercising him or something. With proper exercise and diet, don't worry, he'll look fine. I would wait awhile, though. At eleven months, he's still growing. I'd wait until at least eighteen months to neuter him, personally. And no, a raw diet won't necessarily help maintain muscle definition. Exercise will. Raw diets are great and should certainly be considered, but for other health reasons."

Spartan Mike K replied: "I dislike how people lie just because they think every dog should be neutered. Yes it will soften its appearance in general. The only thing on a male dog that produces testosterine is the testicles. So if you remove them, then your dog will no longer produce testosterone. This is a 100% fact that can not be argued or disputed. No testicles, no testosterone. Another absolute medical fact is testosterone increases muscle mass and the more muslce you have the more fat you burn. Once again, those are facts. So while you can still keep a dog looking good that has been neutered it is an absolute fact that if you have one dog that is intact and one dog that is neutered and you give them both the same exercise and diet (all other things being equal like breed of the dog, tyroid levels, ect), the intact dog will produce more muscle and burn more fat. Those are facts. It would be ignorant to say a intact dog will look exactly the same as a dog that was neutered at 11 months of age. Do you know why in past times it was common place to cut the testicles of young male boys that were actors, because they would look like females as adults and it was comon place to use an all male crew when putting on plays and have males play female roles. Castrated males were often used in the female roles and it was near impossible to tell a clothed male that was castrated at a young age from a clothed female"

jan.feline replied: "Talk to your vet - features are usually fully expressed by the time the vet recommends neutering. Then just follow a good exercise program."

langlaiszoo replied: "The raw diet is the optimal diet for appearance, especially muscling. I have fed this diet for 14 years now. I have a 14 yr old, and he is lean but still muscled. In lieu of neutering, you can have a vasectomy for your dog. I am thinking of doing that with one of my males (I have intact girls here that he is related to) There is a vet in the Palo Alto area of California that does this procedure. Is there a reason why you are choosing to alter your dog? Well bred Ridgebacks maintain their muscling without much exercise. I have seen a dog that was running 3 times a week with his owner, and still did not have appropriate muscling in the thighs, but that was his breeding"

Why cant i build muscle? Hi, I have been weight training along side a friend with propper techniques (mainly compound) for about a year. I had no significan gains in strength and no change in size. He had great gains in size and strength, he and i eat in a similar way ( a hell of alot) but he gets bigger but i just get fatter. We also eat healthily. I thought it could be my testosterone levels but after a blood test they came up as normal to high. So whats the problem, are there any other hormones or problems that prevent muscle growth? thanks in advance. My muscles have been below average in development for most of my life even before i started training. Im 19 by the way

carly sue replied: "This could possibly be a metabolism problem. A simple solution might be a quick trip to the nearest GNC."

R R replied: "every one is different and their bodies reactions to training burning food etc,, your 19 and a lot of blokes are thin they get fat when there 30+ if you have a small frame its hard to pile on the muscle, we all want a little more but the problems may be more mentle then you need to get muscle i did 2-3 training a day between 16-20 i spent loads of time worrying but in the end working long hours cut it down and having a serious girlfriend mad me not care as much, if you work out just do it to be healthy stuff like the rowing machine are more fun and you will get an athletic body, but its hard to change who you are, i can eat four takeaways a day and i still wont gain weight."

robisirt replied: "Hello I'm lifting years since I was 18 years old, now I'm 34 years old and still going in the gym. I had the same problem like you when I had your same age, I didn't build muscle even that I trained hard. When I turned 21 I gained some muscle mass and put on weight, my shoulder were larger and I began to see results. You must take care that to build muscle mass it takes some time, some gain quickier mass other need more time. By the way do never take steroids, they're not a good solution. What has really worked on me it's this workout. Important it's too sleep well, eat healthy and take protein after workouts. The daily protein consumption is 2 gr/kg you can buy a protein supplement to your daily meals. Important it's to eat fish, meat, raw eggs, thunfish and to drink milk. Eat fruits and vegetables five times in the day if it's possible so you have all the vitamins you need. Take a protein shake after a workout with 25 - 30 gramm of Protein Powder, 2 bananas and 500 ml of low fat milk, put all in the mixer and drink it. It's naturally that you must do your workout regulary, and try always to increase your weights but not too much. It takes time to build naturally muscle mass, but if you train hard and eat well you will have good results. That's my best advice I can give you. ---5X5--- Monday: Squats, Benching, Rows Weds: Squats, Military Presses, Deadlifts, Chins Friday: Squats, Benching, Rows Courtesy of bill starr, the greatest strength coach who ever lived, popularized this in the 70's with his great book, The Strongest Shall Survive, which was aimed at strength training for football. I believe he had essentually two different programs which both are 5 sets of 5. The first, which is more suitable for beginners, is to simply do 5 sets of 5 with similar weight jumps between each set so that your last set is your top weight. When you get all 5 on the last set, bump all your weights up 5 or 10lbs. Example for squat... 185 for 5, 225 for 5, 275 for 5, 315 for 5, 365 for 5. If you get 365 for 5, move all weights up. This is especially good for someone who is just learning a particular exercise like the squat, because the amount of practice with light but increasing weights is a good way to practice form. For more advanced lifters, he advocated a warmup, then 5 sets of 5 with a set weight. For example, the same athlete used in the other example may do 135 for 5, 185 for 5, 225 for 3, 275 for 2, 315 for 1, then 350 for 5 sets of 5. When successfull with all 25 reps at 350lbs, bump the weight up the next workout by 5 or 10lbs. This is not outdated, and is a good program for gaining strength. Many elite athletes still use it during at least part of the year. I in fact do 5 sets of 5 on squatting for 4 weeks as part of an 8 or 10 week training cycle. Personally, i do it 3 times a week, but most people will probably make better progress doing it 2 times per week, or even doing version 1 once a week, and version 2 once a week. In any event i described a system in a post a while back that goes something like this: Monday use the heaviest weight you can for all 5 sets (same weight each set)---- in other words when you get all 5 sets of 5 reps up the weight (most workouts you will get 3 or 4 sets of 5- and maybe your last one will be for 3 or 4 reps) Wednesday use 10-20% less weight- in other words if you used 200lbs on monday use 160-180lbs on wednesday- actual amount depending on your recovery Friday work up to a max set of 5- In other words lets say that your best ever set of 5 is 215lbs and you used 200lbs on monday for 5 sets and 170lbs on wednesday. On friday your workout might be like this 95 for 5 135 for 5 175 for 5 200 for 5 then attempt 220 for your last set of 5. This tends to work better as a long term program than doing the same thing 3 times a week. On exercises where you only do them once a week like deadlift you can just do the 5 sets of 5 like i described. On monday on exercises that you are only doing twice (rows) you could do both exercises like the monday workout or lighten one of them depending on your recovery ability. Be conservative with the weight when you start- that is important. Also i have used this program VERY often with athletes and it is result producing. However many of your gains will show up after you use it for 4-6 weeks and you switch to training a bit less frequently and lower the reps and volume. However this is one program i have had a LOT of success with. In fact i rarely if ever use it with athletes who are at the top of their weight class because it causes too much weight gain unless you severely restrict your food."
